JIM SURBER BIO

Jim Surber entered into this world in the dawning months of 19** (He turned 50 this year so you can do the math) in the tiny village of Austin, TX.  Thanks to his father’s privately owned AM/FM radio station in Wise, VA, from 14-22 years old Jim was “245 lbs of twisted steel and sex appeal”; spinning vinyl and entertaining his fans.  After eight years as a pilot of the airwaves, Jim decided as much as he liked radio, he liked eating even more so he embarked on a marketing career that spanned nearly 30 years.  He currently owns and operates his own medical coding and billing company along with his lovely wife, Sylvia.  His passion is the Kingdom of God and sees his position in the marketplace as an avenue for kingdom ministry as well as a source of personal income.

Today, Jim has come full circle as God’s path for him has led to a radio station microphone after a nearly 30 year absence.  This time, instead of spinning records, he’s helping build the Kingdom of God.  His radio talents and experience, his biblical knowledge as well as his servant’s heart and commitment to Christ and His Kingdom makes Jim a very important part of the ChurchQuake team. 

Pastor Chris is very thankful for this ministry partner and motorcycle riding buddy.  If you see the two of them wheeling around Houston on their “scooters”, feel free to give them a friendly honk or a wave.  Just be sure not to run them over, please…

SYLVIA SURBER BIO

Sylvia Surber has been a resident of Pearland, TX most of her life.  (I’d tell you what year she was born but then I’d have to kill you so…)  She was born again in 1988 and has been steadily growing in Christ over the last 20 years.  She met and married the love of her life, Jim Surber, almost 2 years ago and her life hasn’t been the same…in a GOOD way.  Together Sylvia and Jim own and operate a medical billing and coding business and God has been blessing them tremendously since pairing the two of them together.

Sylvia’s office management skills and organizational expertise has been an invaluable part of the ChurchQuake team as well as her bi-lingual skills for our Spanish speaking audience.  She is a true blessing to Pastor Murphy and his family.  It doesn’t hurt that she likes to ride motorcycles too…

CHRIS MURPHY BIO

In the waning months of 1969, the world was forever changed with the birth of Mr. and Mrs. Murphy’s firstborn child.  Well, ok, maybe the world hasn’t been changed all that much but Chris Murphy’s arrival did bring change to a small family on Van Molan St. in Houston,TX.  His birth did herald the beginning of another journey that has brought him to the radio to preach the good news of healing and hope for a fractured and divided Church.

A pastor of nearly 18 years, Chris Murphy is a skinny young thing with a big mouth and a big heart.  Born again in the summer of 1982 and
surrendered to the ministry one year later, Pastor Murphy’s life has been completely dedicated to preaching the Word of God to anyone who would listen to him.  Ok, maybe not completely dedicated.  There was a decade that Pastor Murphy wanted to be anything but a pastor.
The summer of 1998 began his descent into his own personal hell of confusion, suicidal depression and rage-fueled rebellion following his second pastorate.  Chris’ journey took him from the depths of misery back to a place of grace and forgiveness that only God can give.  The result of his journey thus far is the ChurchQuake radio ministry as well as the ministries he is currently leading in Pearland at the church he pastors.

Married to the lovely and talented Michelle “Mica” Murphy for 18 years and blessed with three beautiful children, Pastor Murphy is more than thankful for the second chance given to him to serve God.  His passion is the Body of Christ and his mission is reformation and restoration of the Church and His “True Believers”.  That is the underlying purpose behind ChurchQuake and his reason for living.  See, God CAN take the bad and make it into something good (Romans 8:28).
